Trust Me

Updated: Mar 22, 2021

Trust, that is a powerful word, with powerful feelings attached. It is also something that I tend to have very little of. What I mean is, I have trusted people who were supposed to protect me and they let me down. It has been a very difficult life to live when you can't trust those in your life ever. Even though I have been married to a wonderful man for 20 years and he has never done anything to break my trust ever, I still do not trust him 100%.

In this way I am reminded of Peter tried to walk on water. Though he had been with Jesus and knew that He was trustworthy, he still didn't trust him 100%. Matthew 14:22-33 (NIV) Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”  Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshipped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

How many of us, even knowing, still have issues with trust? It can be proven time and again that you can trust the Lord, and yet there in the back of our minds is that little voice saying, "I trust you but I don't." Our earthly lives can strip our trust like removing wax off a floor, layer by layer, we just have to remember that God can repair that trust with His unconditional love will enable us to follow Him out to the middle of the ocean without drowning.

Yours in Christ
