This week has just started but I feel like it's been a month. Three days and I feel so wore out. Now don't get me wrong, what I have been doing has been wonderful. I have babysat Atreus for two days. He is learning to walk and is trying to take those first few steps. You can see it in his whole body when he contemplates it. When he does take those few steps, there is so much joy.
Watching him grow with such abandon has been a treasure, as anyone who has young children or grandchildren know, it makes me long for that time. When you didn't have a care in the world, your job was just to explore your environments and learn. Then you get older, and now the stuff you learn pulls you in so many directions. I didn't know if I was coming or going, especially yesterday before Worship and Prayer meeting. I was done!
God doesn't want us to run non-stop. He didn't, when He created the Earth he worked for seven days and then took a rest. He left us instructions in Deuteronomy 5:13-14 (NIV) Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns, so that your male and female servants may rest, as you do. Yet in today's world we have lost that concept.
I remember a time when the stores were closed on Sundays. You couldn't go hang out in the mall with your friends, and if I remember correctly I also believed that you had to have your groceries bought during the week as they were closed too. In Westlock, where I live our town mostly shut down at 6 Monday-Wednesday, open later hours on Thursday-Friday, till 6 on Saturday, and some have closed their doors on Sunday.
I digress though, what God wants is to have one day where your full attention is on HIm. To observe a Sabbath day. I do this one day a week, where I am immersed in all things God (this means cellphones off). Some days I just lay in bed listening, it can be hard sometimes cause God isn't always talkative. There are times when I go for a drive and just take in nature, the creation of God's can be so beautiful especially in the fall and winter. Other times I put on gospel music and just immerse in song, dance, and cry. Praise Him and Him alone!
How about just taking a day out of your week to recharge in God. with God?
Yours in Christ,
Heather
