I remember riding my bike with my brother, we were jumping hills and riding under trees. This must have been about two hundred years ago...in my mind at least. I just remember the wind in my hair, we are whooping it up and having a blast, when BAM my face met the pavement. I don't know what happened for me to fall, maybe hit a rock the wrong way. Nevertheless my brother who was a ways up from me, hit his brakes and turned around. Now I would love to say that he was freaked out, worried I had died, but he was laughing. Mind you it was that nervous, what am I going to do, laugh. I sat up and I had scrapes on my face and hands trying to protect myself from injury.
When he stopped laughing he picked me up and helped me wipe myself off. Made sure no bones were broken, used his shirt to wipe up blood, and then tended to my bike which had a bent front wheel. Instead of saying oh well you can walk home, he put my bike on his and walked beside me making sure that I was okay. I have been close to my brother but that day I realized that he really did care for me. He could have easily made me carry my bike home and rode off without me, but he didn't he stayed.
Then when I needed someone to pick me up, God ensured that I had more people then I would ever need. He called them when I had fallen and needed to be lifted up, even when I didn't feel I needed it. In return He has called on my to help lift others. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NIV) Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. God has placed us each in a position so that we can be there for others, and as a church family to pick up the fallen. We are not in this alone, we have God and we have each other. During this time it is important for us to reach out and ensure that those who have fallen know that there is someone there to help them up. I challenge you to think of those who during this season needs you to run with them? Put on your gear and start running, you never know who really needs to know who really cares.
