Grace - Not Just A Prayer at Dinner

Updated: Mar 22, 2021

I remember when we would sit down at the dinner table and we would hold hands and say "grace" before eating. I am sure that we still say this. It always puzzled me why at dinner we would say grace but at bedtime we would say prayers. It would be much later that I would understand what true grace is. Grace is the love of God shown to the unlovely; the peace of God given to the restless; the unmerited favor of God.

With the original sin we have all been condemned. The choice to seek knowledge that we were not prepared for caused a great fall, the consequence of this was death. God loves us so much He showed true grace. Loving us His son died on a cross for us, redeeming us from death to eternal life.

Now I ask you if God can show us grace, why do we find it so hard to show it to others? I am not saying that we have to show a sacrifice tantamount to what God showed us, but I know that we can show it in little ways. I believe those who show amazing grace are those who have been able to show true forgiveness for those who did things that people would say that forgiveness need not be forgiven.

I have found that I feel much more blessed when I can show grace. I am not saying that it is easy, but if you truly want to be Christ-like and show love then you should be able to show grace to those who you feel don't deserve it. I challenge you to find ways this week in which you can show grace, or pray on the moments when you should have.

Yours in Christ

Heather
