How many times have you thought that money would bring you happiness. If I just had more money I could... I used to think that I could become famous one day and that all the money I make would make me happy. In truth there is too many strings attached to that money. I honestly feel that if money truly makes you happy you wouldn't have so many stories of the evil men do that have that money.
In James 5 God was making it clear that the money that they had along with the status it gives will fade away. Especially when you build your life around money. Now I am not saying that it is bad to have wealth, God is not forbidding you to have money, it's how you live with that wealth. The pleasures that you partake with that money can lead to you sinning.
God also talks about patience. I do not have this down quite yet but I am getting better. God has set his time to return. His moments in time are not the same as ours. Time is nothing to Him. All that He asks that we continue to serve Him faithfully knowing that at the end of all the trials and tribulations we go through we will receive the eternal happiness that we looked for here on Earth. Is that not something worth waiting for?
While we are waiting we must continue to praise Him for all that we have, the blessing we receive, the lessons that we learn. We also need to remember to take everything to God in prayer. Not just what we feel is needed at that time, but everything. We need to pray for all those around us, not just those who are close to us. All means All. I will continue to remind myself of this also. We must never cease praying.
We must also work to build each other up and hold each other accountable. We must be willing to lovingly point out the ways our brothers and sisters are straying from the path towards the eternal happiness. If someone bears a grudge and they come to you with it, communicate with them. Sometimes a misread sign or slight can be healed when acknowledged. If the grudge they bear is with someone else, encourage them to go to that person and talk. We have to be willing to confess our sins and seek forgiveness at all times. Do not wait until it's too late.
Yours in Christ
Heather
